Church Heat Pumps

The church’s new Heat Pump System is up and running, providing the church with heating and cooling in all areas except the sanctuary. The sanctuary will continue to be heated by our propane system.

Funding for the Heat Pump System came from the sale of the conservation easement to the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust and a rebate from Efficiency Maine.

In addition to the heat pumps for heating and cooling, a heat pump hot water heater was installed in the boiler room, funded by a rebate from Efficiency Maine. The Trustee estimate the cost of using the new hot water heater will cost approximately $200 per year vs. $1,000 annually for the electricity to run the old one.

The heat pump system controls the heating and cooling in four zones of the church: Judy’s Pantry (the old chapel), the Administrative Assistant’s Office and the Library in one zone, the Sunshine Room in another, the Child Care Center in a third, and the Pastor’s Office and Sunday School Room in a fourth.

Thank you to Rod Frey and all the Trustees for developing this plan and seeing it through to make our church more energy efficient.
