Our church’s Board of Trustees has awarded four Belyea Scholarships this year, going to Kristen Deiley, Tyler Rodenberger, Camille Braun, and Faith York.
Belyea Scholarships are awarded most springs to children or grandchildren of church members or adults seeking higher education opportunities.
The scholarship is named for Arline Belyea, who passed away in 1984. She was a child of the Great Depression and left school to go to work. She was forced into an early retirement because of chronic lung disease. In later years, Arline developed a love of music and a deep appreciation of the medical profession. She developed a renewed faith thanks to visits from the pastor and members of the Cape Elizabeth United Methodist Church.
Arline’s husband established a memorial fund to assist students of music, medicine, and ministry.
Kristen will be a senior this fall at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, and will include religious studies in her marketing course work. Tyler also will be a senior, studying music and computer science at Hamilton College in Hamilton, New York. Camille is working on her doctoral degree in Minnesota and has just completed a course in medical translation through her cross-cultural communication studies. Faith is expanding her extensive music background with saxophone lessons.
Kristin is the daughter of Deb Wakefield and granddaughter of Duane and Linda Wakefield. Tyler is the son of Beth Austin, and Camille is the daughter of Mark and Margaret Braun.
Congratulations to Kristen, Tyler, Camille, and Faith! And thank you to Arline Belyea and her family!!
