Chapel Woods improvement

A new improvement has been completed in Chapel Woods as part of an Eagle Scout Leadership Project by Cape Elizabeth’s Alden Hughes. Over two weekends in August, Alden, with help from other members of Troop 30, friends and parents, constructed 163 feet of boardwalk over wet and muddy areas of the Cross-Town Trail near the Outdoor Chapel.

The group also cleared a new path farther down the trail, as requested by the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust.

Wood for the Boardwalk Project was provided by Hancock Lumber at a reduced rate for CELT.

Alden will be a senior this fall at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone. His plans after graduation are to attend one of the U.S. military academies.

This is the fifth Eagle Scout Leadership Project to have taken place in the Robinson Woods area near the church. In 1994, John Hoskin’s project cleared the portion of the woods for what is now the Outdoor Chapel. In 2005, Matt Braun made improvements, in 2016, Preston Stewart made more improvements, and in 2021, Jack McKibben continued chapel improvements in addition to fixing some flooding issues along the trail.

Congratulations to Alden, Troop 30, and friends for doing an amazing job!
