Mardi Gras at CEUMC
The last Sunday before Lent once again was the occasion for Jazz Sunday at the Cape Elizabeth United Methodist Church, led by Stephen Bither, his small group of talented musicians, and Faith York and the church choir.
It was a rollicking morning of worship, music, fellowship and to top it off — a pancake luncheon organized and served by Brenda Simpson and her friends.
In addition to Stephen on the piano, the musicians included Roger Snow on trombone, John Battis on sax and clarinet, Peter Dunphy on the banjo, Tom Wilbur on the bass horn, and Jake Wilson on drums.
Jazz was the music of choice before and after the service and during the anthem, offertory, and communion. It was a true community worship with heartfelt fellowship between friends and both older and newer members of the congregation. Jazz Sunday has become a CEUMC tradition and the 2011 version was right in tune with expectations.
Thank you to everyone who made it possible!
