1,195 pounds have been donated
At the midway point of this summer’s Tuesday food pantry in our church, organizer Nancy Miles reports that 1,195 pounds of produce have been donated, through Aug. 30.
Judy’s Produce Pantry is open on Tuesdays from 3-5:30 p.m. and is expected to remain open through the end of October — depending on crops and the weather. The pantry offers free produce and food staples to anyone in need of putting good food on their tables.
Nancy reports that both the Gull Crest and Maxwell Community Gardens have contributed about the same amount to the pantry — 296 pounds from Gull Crest and 304 from Maxwell. Jordan’s farm also contributes, as do individuals Imelda Maxwell and Kiley Randall.
Residents have contributed an additional 160 pounds.
Visitors to the pantry have increased over the past month with 15-plus people having come in each of the past three weeks. Eighteen visitors took advantage of the produce offer two weeks ago.
The boxed and canned goods shelf was empty two weeks ago, but contributions from church members have once again put pasta, soups and other non-perishable products back in place. More contributions are needed each week.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this successful community venture.
