Part 2 of this year's Vacation Bible School was at Fort Williams on a perfect summer night.
Enjoying the best summer has to offer
The second of three nights of this year’s Vacation Bible School was held at Fort Williams on July 11 and any scripted plan for the evening was clearly secondary to relaxing, taking in the fellowship of friends and families, and soaking in the magnificence of God’s creation in our own little corner of this world.
On an absolutely perfect evening by the sea, members of our church and their friends and families gathered at Fort Williams’ first cove for a variety of summer activities, the only purpose of which was to have fun.
Each of this summer’s VBS experiences are loosely based on Peter H. Reynolds’ book “Ish,” in which a young boy learns that thinking “ish-ly” is far more wonderful than “getting it right.”
For our evening at Fort Williams, it was all “summer-ish” with kite-flying, kick ball playing, swinging, enjoying a pot luck supper and conversation, storytelling, Frisbee playing, and exploring the rocky coastline.
And all of this was against the backdrop of colorful sailboats on Casco Bay, gulls gliding in search of forgotten picnic food, dogs frolicking in the tall grass, and a setting sun that cast ever-changing shadows,
Could it have been any better?
No.
The third and final night of this summer’s Vacation Bible School will be Tuesday, July 24 from 6-8 p.m. at the Parsonage. Don’t miss another night of “summer-ish” fun.
