Caring for people in need
Even with fresh produce still months away, Judy’s Pantry continues to serve individuals and families in Cape Elizabeth who have trouble putting healthy meals on their dining tables.
At this time of the year, the Pantry is open every second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 3-5 p.m. in our church’s Sunshine Room.
The Pantry will move to an every Tuesday schedule some time in June, when fresh produce becomes available.
Until the fresh produce is available, the Pantry still offers apples, potatoes, carrots, and oranges, in addition to a wide range of non-perishable canned goods and boxed pasta and cereals. There also are some offerings of frozen foods from the Wayside Food Program in Portland, and loaves of bread donated by Scratch Bakery in South Portland.
On a recent Tuesday, there were large bags of potatoes in the Pantry donated by our church from what wasn’t used at the March 16 Corned Beef and Cabbage Supper.
The Pantry continues to offer a large selection of children’s books. The books are donations from people who bring them to the Cape Library as part of the Book Fairy Pantry Project.
Thank you to all the volunteers who make all of this possible!
If you would like to make donations of non-perishable foods to the Pantry, please leave them in the shopping cart inside the front entrance to the church or in the bins in the back hallway across from the chapel.
