Dear Cape Elizabeth United Methodist Church family members,

We are a few weeks away from the start of the Advent season during which we anticipate the coming of Christ and prepare to receive him into our hearts.

Many of us use an Advent calendar to count down the days until Christmas. Adults and children look forward to the little picture or surprise we get each day to help us to focus on our Advent journey. CEUMC has chosen a “Reverse Advent Calendar” as our Christmas project. The calendar focuses on GIVING something each day rather than RECEIVING something.

Beginning on November 29th and ending on December 20th, we hope that you will choose an item from the list below and add it to a box you and your family have created. On Sunday, December 20th, between 1 and 3 p.m., you may drop your box off outside the front door of the church. If you are unable to drop it off, it will be picked up by volunteers. Items that we receive will be sorted and distributed to agencies who need them: Judy’s Pantry, Family Promise, and the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

We hope that you will help us to spread Christian love this Christmas season!

PANTRY ITEMS: Canned vegetables, canned fruits, soups, instant potatoes, pasta and sauce, peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese, cereal or oatmeal, granola bars, tuna, crackers.

PERSONAL ITEMS: Deodorant, tooth brushes, tooth paste, shampoo and conditioner, razors and shaving cream, feminine products, Band Aids, gloves, hats, socks.

PET ITEMS: Pet toys, pet treats, dog blankets, dog food (dry and wet), cat food (dry and wet), pet collars, pet leashes, pet shampoo, towels, paper towels.
