Church project for people of Burundi

Judith Hill has volunteered to lead a quilting workshop this Saturday, Feb. 25, with the goal of creating quilts from our church to the people of Burundi who recently have settled in the Greater Portland area.

The Quilting Day at CEUMC will begin at 8 a.m. and as Judith explained, “I will conduct a class for those who would like to learn.”

The quilts Judith and Rev. Ruth Morrison have selected to make are the “Trip Around the World,” very appropriate for this endeavor. It will take approximately eight hours to complete the quilts. Lunch will be provided.

If you can participate, please arrive at the church at 8 a.m. and by the end of the day our church will have wonderful gifts for our new neighbors.

Below is a list of materials for each of those who wish to attend. There are six different color cotton fabrics, measured as follows, for each quilt:

  • First color: 2 1/2 yards
  • Second color: 2 7/8 yards
  • Third color: 3 1/8 yards
  • Fourth, fifth and sixth colors: 3/4 yards each.
  • Also needed: 1 package of queen size quilt batting, backing (6 yards material or a king size flat bed sheet), and embroidery floss.
  • Bring your own sewing machines.
