Pantry opened on Tuesdays
For the third summer, Judy’s Produce Pantry opened at our church on Tuesday, June 26 and will remain open every Tuesdy into the fall, from 3-5:30 p.m. each week.
Thanks to the cooperative effort between our church, the William H. Jordan Farm on Wells Road, two Cape Community Gardens, and Maxwell’s Farm, the best of the season’s succulent vegetables will be available, free of charge, to individuals and families in Cape Elizabeth who have limited resources and are struggling to eat healthy food.
To supplement the vegetables, members of our church contributed non-perishable boxed and canned goods last year and the pantry is looking for similar, if not expanded contributions this year.
To help with the contributions from the church and other relationships with the pantry, two members of our church — Linda Wakefield and Nancy Johnson — will be working with the pantry this summer.
Whenever you can contribute non-perishable items, please leave them on top of the bookcases by the windows in the Sunshine Room or by Grace the giraffe in the Narthex. Items needed for the pantry include canned tuna, pasta, peanut butter, salad dressing, tomato sauce, cereal, canned fruit, juices, pet food, cleaning products and paper products.
There is no limit to the number of times an individual or family can come to the pantry and there will be no paperwork.
If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Miles at 767-1031.
Judy’s Produce Pantry is named to honor the memory of Judy Simonds, whose passion was gardening. Judy had been a Cape Elizabeth resident since 1971 before passing away in 2010.
