Special honor for Kathie Hackett
For many years, Kathie Hackett has been the treasurer of the United Methodist Women’s organization. But without the title of president, she also has been running and organizing all of the group’s events.
That dedication and commitment were highlighted on Sunday, Nov. 11, when Linda Wakefield presented Kathie with the UMW’s 2012 Recognition Award. Because Kathie prepares every UMW event — but not this one — Sunday’s presentation was a major surprise. It clearly was well deserved.
In addition to her work with the UMW, which includes preparing receptions for funerals and special events, organizing the annual Whatever Sale, and making all of the preparations for selling Italian sandwiches on Super Bowl Sunday, Kathie is the church’s communion steward, has been both an usher and greeter, and has been involved in the teaching of Sunday School classes.
Kathie also is well known for the many cakes she has made and also the extradordinary macaroni and cheese she prepares for church suppers. For the annual Jolly Snowman Fair, Kathie makes fine crafts, and for many church events for which some people don’t have the transportation to attend, it’s Kathie who provides rides.
From her home in South Portland, Kathie is involved in community events, including being a Willard Beach dog walker and cleaner of the beach. She also teaches Matter of Balance classes.
Thank you, Kathie, for all you do!!!
