Prayer Chains

Spiritual Life Team Chairperson Sherrie Kaminsky explains how the prayer chain will be assembled.

Thoughts for a new year

The church’s new Spiritual Life Team unveiled its first project on Dec. 8, a paper chain that will be wrapped around the communion rail, carrying the congregation’s prayers for the new year.

During both the 8 and 10 a.m. services, everyone was given a colorful strip of paper on which they were asked to write a special prayer for the new year. The strips were then looped with studs and attached to each other throughout the church, creating a long paper chain.

Sherrie Kaminsky, chairperson of the Spiritual Life Team, explained that the chain will be a spiritual “connectedness,” linking together each member of the congregation.

The Sunday School also created a chain, which was attached to the longer one in the sanctuary. A second set of prayer chains will be created on Dec. 15. Chains from the two Sundays will be joined together and wrapped around the communion rail.

In January the chain will be taken apart and individual prayers will be offered to anyone wishing to take them home as a personal prayer focus for the new year.

Thank you to Sherrie and Phillip Kaminsky for putting this project together, including the selection of the colorful strips of paper.
