Worship with ukuleles

The Peaks Island Ukes, led by Faith York and Larry Ducharme, will play their ukuleles throughout the 10 a.m. service at our church on Sunday, Aug. 12

These images are from the Ukes’ recent performance at Portland’s Casco Bay UkeFest at St. Luke’s Cathedral. The Ukes have been featured in AARP and DownEast magazine articles and have played on WCHS6’s “207” and morning programs and WGME’s “Good Morning Maine” television program.

A group of 50-plus rotating members, who have been playing together since 2013, the Ukes’ repertoire ranges from folk, gospel, jazz, rock, pop, and oldies to classical by Bach, Beethoven, and Pachelbel.

For the Aug. 12 service at our church, the Ukes will be playing Morning Has Broken for the Introit, You Raise Me Up for the Anthem, Let It Be for the Offertory, and In the Garden at the end of the service.

Since coming together in 2013, the Ukes have played at dozens of weddings, clubs, festivals, concerts, garden parties, private luncheons and dinners, variety shows,  parades, flash mobs, and at senior centers.
