The new inflatable 16-foot movie screen was used for the first time on Oct. 5, along with the new benches.
First use of Foundation grant money
On Friday, Oct. 5, our church launched the first of what it hopes will be a series of fun events for both the congregation and community with First Friday Flicks. The evening included large-scale games on the front lawn, hot dogs and popcorn, and a movie on the new 16-foot inflatable screen in front of the church.
All of this was made possible from a $3,000 grant awarded to our church by the United Methodist Foundation of New England for outreach projects and opportunities. Thank you to Gail Parker for both writing the grant request and for organizing the first events.
The next event will be Family Fall Fun Day on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 2-6 p.m. at the church, again featuring the large-scale games, hot dogs and popcorn and the showing of the 2018 film Peter Rabbit. These events are free and open to the public. Invite family and friends!
The schedule of events includes First Friday Flicks on the first Friday of each month from 5-6:30 p.m. The next First Friday will be Nov. 2 and will include the showing of the film Bruce Almighty.
Future events also will include inviting youth groups from other Cape Elizabeth churches and activities will include crafts, in addition to the games, snacks and movies.
This is a well-planned outreach opportunity for members of our church and community to gather throughout the year for fun times. Please see Gail Parker if you can help with any of the planned activities. Thank you to Mariah Parker and George Labreck for helping out with the first event on Oct. 5.
