More than just our pets
Our church held its Blessing of the Animals in the Outdoor Chapel for a 14th straight year, welcoming pets belonging to members of the congregation and the Cape Elizabeth community.
During the Oct. 8 afternoon blessing on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, animal-related scriptures were read, each owner told a story about their pet, and an individualized blessing, a pat on the head, and a dog treat were given by the Rev. Casey Collins.
The October blessings at our church began in 2005 to honor and recognize St. Francis, patron saint of animals and the environment.
Eve from Cape Elizabeth brought her dog Tate (picture below) to the blessing for the first time because Tate is suffering from a serious heart condition and Eve was looking for a special blessing.
