‘Christmas Is Coming’ in full splendor
The “Christmas Is Coming” Interfaith Christmas Concert at our church on Dec. 9 brought together faith communities from Cape Elizabeth, South Portland and Scarborough. In its sixth year, it keeps getting better!
Organized by Gail Parker from our church and Carol Sobczak from the Latter Day Saints, the concert included special Christmas music selected just for this occasion, traditional carols and hymns sung by all in attendance, special music performances by Tyler Rodenburg on piano, and Mark Braun (piano) and Steve Schiffman (clarinet), a “What Child Is This?” solo by Elder Jarvis, and the combined choral singing of adults and children.
Participating faith communities included the Thornton Heights United Methodist Church, South Portland’s People’s United Methodist Church, St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, the Maine Hindu Tempe in Westbrook, in addition to our church and the Church of Latter Day Saints.
Bishop Craig Treadwell from the Latter Day Saints welcomed all in attendance and the Rev. Casey Collins from our church gave a closing blessing.
The closing numbers of the concert were the popular “Angels are Making their Rounds” with the combined choir spreading out to surround the sanctuary, and the equally popular “Let There Be Peace on Earth” sung by all in attendance.
Following the concert, everyone gathered in Fellowship Hall for a sampling of hundreds of Christmas cookies, brownies and other treats.
