Create dresses for girls in poverty
For a third year, a group of women from our church and their friends will spend the next five Saturday mornings creating dresses for the international Dress A Girl Around the World mission. Each session will run from 9 a.m.-noon, Jan. 27-Feb. 24.
You are invited to join the group and either create and sew together the dresses or help out in a variety of other ways. If you would like to sew, please bring your sewing machine and some fabric for creating the dresses. Some fabric is already at the church from previous sessions.
Dress A Girl Around The World has 1,600 members sewing throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, European countries, Costa Rica, Uganda, and other locations throughout the world. The Southern Maine group has distributed 11,000 dresses to Senegal, Malawi, Uganda, Haiti, India, Nicaragua, and Guatemala.
In 2016, women from our church created 116 dresses. In 2017 the final total was 166. The goal for this year is to do at least 167.
Dress A Girl Around The World is an organization under the umbrella of Hope for Women. Dress A Girl has four hopes: Dignity, Joy, Health, and Love.
It is not necessary to take part in all five sessions or even any full session — come when you can and stay for as long as you are available.
